2,3-Dimethylphenol is a useful synthetic intermediate. It was used in the synthesis of hydroxychalcones and flavones with antiinflammatory activities. It was also used to prepare 3,3-bisaryloxindole analogs as mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists.
