Butyl Isocyanate is a useful synthetic intermediate. It was used to prepare aspartic acid protease (hydroxyethyl)amine and (hydroxyethyl)urea pseudopeptide inhibitors. It was also used in the synthesis of monocyclic β-lactams as inhibitors of human cytomegalovirus protease.
