5-Methylfurfural is a common chemical reagent used in a wide variety of chemical reactions and organic synthesis. Polycyclic pyridazine based derivatives are synthesized with this compound to form antimicrobial agents. Also used in the preparation of antiinflammatory diarylpentanoid analogues.
