1,2,3,4,5-Pentachlorobenzene is a pesticide residue from the metabolization of industrial pesticides/chemicals and bioaccumulation in the environment. PeCB was used in PCB products, in dyestuff carriers, as a fungicide, a flame retardant and as a chemical intermediate e.g. previously for the production of quintozene. PeCB is persistent in the environment, highly bioaccumulative and has a potential for long-range environmental transport. One of the new POPs under the Stockholm Convention.
