介紹: 遇光變暗。易溶于乙醇、氯仿，溶于水、乙醚、苯，不溶于石油醚；溶解度:45g/L (20°C)、1g/220ml 乙醚、1g/100ml 苯。pK（20℃）=12.35，pH值5.9。因其氮原子在側(cè)鏈上是酰胺結(jié)構(gòu)，故不呈堿性。
用途: 秋水仙堿是染色體研究中不可缺少的試劑。抗有絲分裂試劑，靠結(jié)合微管蛋白（tubulin）阻斷微管聚合。 激活微管蛋白內(nèi)在的GTPase活性。 在幾種正常和腫瘤細(xì)胞株上誘導(dǎo)細(xì)胞凋亡，激活 JNK/SAPK 信號(hào)傳導(dǎo)途徑。

生化和生理學(xué)機(jī)理:
Colchicine, a tubulin Inhibitor, has been shown to block polymerization of microtubules by binding to tubulin (IC50 = 3.2 μM). Studies indicate that Colchicine also causes apoptosis of cells by acting on tissue plasminogen activators (tPA) and disrupting the cytoskeleton of cells. Exposure of cells to Colchicine has also been reported to result in alterations of Ca2+ concentrations in cells which may also result in apoptosis. Since increased rate of mitosis is associated with cancer cell proliferation, blocking microtubule function with Colchicine has been used as an approach to anti-cancer therapy. For instance, Colchicine blocks the growth of MCF-7 human breast carcinoma cells with an IC50 value of 13 nM. Colchicine produces anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting neutrophil motility and activity (5 μmol/kg in a mouse model of gouty arthritis) and inhibits the deposition of uric acid, a key aspect in the treatment of gout.
